Login and Registration Issues

Why can't I sign in?
Have you registered? You must register in order to sign in.  If you are registered and still cannot sign in then check your username and password. Usually this is the problem. If that's fine, please email support@on2nite.com . Have you been banned from the Forums? A message will be displayed if you have. If so, you should contact the Forum Moderator to find out why.

Why do I need to register at all?
By registering you can choose your favourite Events in My Profile.  Then you will be sent what's on info automatically to your email.  Registration also lets you comment on Forums. It only takes a few moments and is FREE.

How do I stay signed in automatically?
Set this in My Profile. Look for Remember Me and select a time period from the drop-down.  This is not recommended if you access the site / forum from a shared computer e.g. library, internet cafe, university, workplace etc. The default is set as Don't  .

I've lost my password! or forgotten it!
Don't panic!  To do this go to the Front Page and click Lost Your Password? under the sign -in boxes. Follow the instructions and you will be back on2nite in no time.

How do I change my password!
Your password can be changed at anytime in My Profile i.e Current Password, New Password and Confirm New Password . And remember to Save.

I registered but cannot login!
First check that you are entering the correct username and password.  If they are OK then perhaps you need to activate your account - there is a link on the email sent to the address you gave.

How do I change my settings?
All your settings are stored in My Profile.  The link is on the left-hand side.

How do I show an image with my On2nite username?
There can be images shown when viewing and posting posts on Forums.  It is up to the Forum moderator to enable images. Upload an image in My Profile.

Simply go to My Profile. These choices change the events in My Diary so you get what you want..

I have a new mobile phone number. How do I change my number on the system?
Easy. Your mobile phone number is in My Profile. Change it and Save.  All mobile numbers are hidden to others.

Posting Issues / Forum
How do I post a topic in a forum?
Easy -- click the relevant button on either the forum or topic screens. You will need to register before you can post a message. Back to top
How do I edit or delete a post?
You can only edit or delete your own posts. You can edit a post (sometimes for only a limited time after it was made) by clicking the edit button for the relevant post. If someone has already replied to the post, you will find a small piece of text output below the post when you return to the topic that lists the number of times you edited it. This will only appear if no one has replied; it also will not appear if moderators or administrators edit the post (they should leave a message saying what they altered and why). Please note that a non-moderator cannot delete a post once someone has replied to it.

How do I add a signature to my post?
To add a signature to a post you must first create one; this is done in My Profile. Once created you can check the Add Signature box on the posting form to add your signature. You can also add a signature by default to all your posts by checking the appropriate radio box in your My Profile. You can still prevent a signature being added to individual posts by un-checking the add signature box on the posting form before publishing.

Why can't I access a Forum?
Some Forums may be limited to certain users or groups. To view, read, post, etc. you may need special authorization which only the Forum moderators can grant, so you should contact them.

Why can't I vote in Surveys?
Only registered On2nite users can vote so as to prevent spoofing of results. Back to top

Formatting and Topic Types within the Forum
Can I use HTML?
Only certain tags work. This is a safety feature to prevent people from abusing the board by using tags which may destroying the layout or cause other problems. HTML can be disable on a per post basis from the posting form.

What are Smilies?
Smilies or Emoticons are small graphical images which can be used to express some feeling e.g. :) means happy and :( means sad. The full list of emoticons can be seen via the posting form. Try not to overuse smilies as they can quickly render a post unreadable and a moderator may decide to edit them out or remove the post altogether.

Can I post Images?
Images can indeed be shown in your posts. However, there is no facility at present for uploading images directly to these forums. Therefore you must link to an image stored on a publicly accessible web server, e.g. http://www.some-unknown-place.net/my-picture.gif. You cannot link to pictures stored on your own PC (unless it is a publicly accessible server) nor to images stored behind authentication mechanisms such as Hotmail or Yahoo mailboxes, password-protected sites, etc. To display the image use appropriate HTML.

What are Announcements?
Announcements often contain important information and you should read them as soon as possible. Announcements appear at the top of every page in the forum to which they are posted. Whether or not you can post an announcement depends on the permissions required, which are set by the administrator.

What are Sticky topics?
Sticky topics appear below any announcements in viewforum and only on the first page. They are often quite important so you should read them where possible. As with announcements the board administrator determines what permissions are required to post sticky topics in each forum.

What are Locked topics?
Locked topics are set this way by either the forum moderators or forum administrator. You cannot reply to locked topics and any poll contained inside is automatically ended. Topics may be locked for many reasons.

User Levels and Groups / Forum
What are Administrators?
Administrators are people assigned the highest level of control over the entire Forum. These people can control all facets of sites operation which include setting permissions, banning Members, creating Membergroups or moderators, etc. They also have full moderator capabilities in all the forums.

What are Moderators?
Moderators are individuals (or groups of individuals) whose job it is to look after the running of the Forums from day to day. They have the power to edit or delete posts and lock, unlock, move, delete and split topics in the forum they moderate. Generally moderators are there to prevent people going off-topic or posting abusive or offensive material.

How do I become a Moderator?
Moderators are brilliant. To be a Moderator means you know your scene or your interest and are keen to make sure people get out more!  Some people are Moderators because they get to know more and people get to know them. If you are interested in being a Moderator then email us at info@on2nite.com.

Events
How do I add an event?
Many thanks for spreading the word! Simply click Add Event in the left-hand menu to go to the event listings page. Create New option will be at the top of the screen, click and begin the process. You need to select the type of event, the venue, the dates and add your description.

Why do I have to choose an event type?
Event Types maybe limited but this is very important because people choose what they want to hear about. So if you are putting on an Indie gig then choose Indie from the drop down list.

Front Page Stories
How do I create a Front Page story?
Click Add News in the left-hand menu. This lets people put stores on the Front Page. They will be displayed in the order they are added. Use this to tell people about your events, your band, your organisation or your art. On2nite is for sharing the best stuff in your area. If it is misused we will take off the articles and the person may have to be banned from On2nite.

How do I put images into story / news?
Images can indeed be shown in the story listing. Uploading images works very simply. 1. Browse and select an image to upload...bearing in mind width and height restrictions and file size restrictions. 2. Reference this image into your story. i.e by adding [imageN], the N meaning which image number 1, 2, 3 etc.

How do I create a survey?
Click Surveys link in the left-hand menu. Here you can see existing surveys and add your own! Have fun.

What do I do if I want feedback on my survey?
You will have the option to enable comments, underneath your question, comments enabled is set as default, so just finish and save your survey and watch the votes and comments come in.

Abuse
Whom do I contact about any abusive and/or legal matters I might find On2nite?
Click Report Abuse on the bottom menu. In a Forum you may want to tell the Moderator.
